Planet, sign and house are different layers
- Planet: what function is active.
- Sign: how that function tends to express itself.
- House: where in the chart the function is situated.
- Aspect: how it relates to another function.
A planet does not “become” a house, and a house is not another zodiac sign. Traditional analogies between Aries and the first house can be useful mnemonics, but they should not replace the actual sign on a cusp or planets placed there.
Houses 1–4: self and foundation

The first house begins at the Ascendant in quadrant and equal-house systems. The fourth-house region relates to the lower part of the chart, but its cusp is not always identical with the IC in every system.
Houses 5–8: expression and exchange

The seventh house opposes the first: interpretation gains depth when both sides are considered. The eighth is broader than death or crisis; it includes obligations and resources that cannot be treated as purely individual.
Houses 9–12: perspective and integration

Avoid reducing the twelfth house to punishment or the tenth to one job title. Houses describe fields in which many kinds of experience can appear.
Natal and transit houses in Astro Legacy
The natal house describes where a natal target is placed. The transit house describes where the moving planet currently travels through the natal house structure. A result can therefore combine both: transiting Jupiter in the sixth house trine a natal planet in the second, for example.
Why birth time and house system matter
House cusps depend on time, coordinates and method. If the birth time is unknown, house placements and angles are approximate. Different systems can assign a planet near a cusp to different houses without changing its zodiac degree. See house systems and exact birth time.
Common questions
Is an empty house unimportant?
No. Its cusp sign, ruler and transits still provide context. An empty house simply contains no listed natal planet.
Does a transit through a house guarantee an event in that area?
No. It identifies an area of symbolic emphasis. The planet, aspects, timing and real circumstances remain necessary.
Which house system is correct?
Astrological traditions use different systems. Choose deliberately, keep the method consistent while comparing charts and state which system you used.
